The United States Department of Justice accused him of using his rank to protect the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as receiving millions in bribes, and conspiring with said criminal organization to smuggle drugs. The so called “Operation Godfather” was the most solid and compelling international investigation about a Mexican military man directly linked to the drug trade.
